In an effort to bolster relations and encourage educational opportunities, the U.S. plans to contribute $45 million to the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, a government press release reported. The funds will be used for expanding relationships between the countries’ universities, increasing education for displaced students, enabling the commission to exempt displaced students from fees, expand opportunities for students to become health professionals and expand engineering and women’s education; and supporting infrastructure upgrades and teacher training. The money is part of a $1 billion pledge the U.S. announced at the Tokyo Donors Conference in April.
