UC Berkeley’s College of Engineering to open graduate center in Shanghai

The College of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, announced plans to open a graduate education and research facility in Shanghai, China, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

Located in Zhangjiang High-Tech Park, the 50,000-square-foot center will be built at no cost to UCB by the city of Shanghai and the company that runs the technology park. The college will be allowed to operate there rent-free for five years. In addition, the Zhangjiang High-Tech Park said it would raise at least $50 million over five years to support research partnerships between Berkeley and Chinese institutions.
