The top public health official in Los Angeles and his wife recently donated $50 million to the School of Public Health at the University of California, The Los Angeles Times reported.
Dr. Jonathan Fielding, director of public health for Los Angeles County and his wife, Karin, made the gift, the largest single donation the school has received since its creation 50 years ago, to support student scholarships, faculty recruitment and campus infrastructure improvements. It also will endow a chair in population health to look at how housing, education and transportation affect public health. As a sign of recognition, the school will be renamed the Jonathan and Karin Fielding School of Public Health.
