UGA alumnus to give Woodroof Lecture

UGA alumnus Donald W. Schaffner will deliver the 2016 J.G. Woodroof Lecture April 5 at 12:30 p.m. in Rooms K/L of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. His lecture, “Solving Food Safety Problems with Math and Statistics,” is open free to the public.

Schaffner received his master’s degree and doctorate from UGA in 1985 and 1989, respectively. He is an Extension Specialist and Distinguished Professor in the food science department at Rutgers University.

The author of more than 130 peer-reviewed publications, Schaffner was elected a Fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists in 2010 and a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology in 2014. He is an editor for the American Society for Microbiology journal Applied and Environmental Microbiology. Schaffner also was the president of the International Association for Food Protection in 2013-2014.

The Woodroof Lecture is co-sponsored by the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences’ food science and technology department and the UGA Food Science Club.
