UGA awards 2009 Goizueta Foundation Scholarship

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia has awarded The Goizueta Foundation Scholarship to incoming first-year students and twin sisters Erica and Janet Figueroa, who are from Dalton.

They are graduates of Dalton High School and the daughters of Cris and Silvia Figueroa.

The award provides $3,000 per year to undergraduates who are fluent in both written and spoken Spanish, have family who currently reside in the United States, and have demonstrated financial need as determined by UGA’s Office of Student Financial Aid.

The scholarship is part of a number of grants The Goizueta Foundation of Atlanta has awarded to UGA for enhancing educational opportunities for a more diverse student body, particularly undergraduates fluent in both written and spoken Spanish. UGA’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions awards the scholarships on behalf of The Goizueta Foundation.

The scholarship is renewable for a maximum of three years of undergraduate study if the students maintain certain academic requirements and continue to have demonstrated financial need.
