UGA College of Education offers workshop on Inference Strategy and Vocabulary LINCing Routine

Athens, Ga. – “The Inference Strategy and The Vocabulary LINCing Routine,” part of a series of Strategic Instructional Model® professional development workshops for teachers, will be presented by the University of Georgia College of Education Feb. 9-10 at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel.

This two-day workshop will introduce teachers to the foundations of SIM® and prepare them to implement research-based interventions to help students acquire skills for comprehending reading passages beyond the literal level while understanding unfamiliar vocabulary. Participants will learn how to implement The Inference Strategy as well as The Vocabulary LINCing Content Enhancement Routine. These instructional methods and devices can be used in tandem to promote reading comprehension.

Professional Learning Units can be earned through the workshops, contingent upon approval by the administration of individual school districts.

Developed through the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning from on-going research for more than 30 years, SIM® is an evidence-based model of instruction that provides learning strategies and content enhancement routines geared especially towards students who are struggling to learn in the classroom, including those with specific learning difficulties.

The SIM® workshops require instruction by an approved University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning professional developer. The cost for the two-day workshop is $275. The registration deadline is Jan. 26. For more information on these and other workshops or to register online, see the UGA College of Education’s Office of Outreach and Engagement at www.coe.uga.edu/events.
