UGA College of Education student receives national award

Athens, Ga. – University of Georgia doctoral student Rudy Dunlap has received the 2008 Leadership for the Future award from the Society of Park and Recreation Educators.

The award is presented to young scholars who have completed their doctorate and demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities.

Dunlap, who recently graduated with a Ph.D. in recreation and leisure studies, received the award in recognition of his tremendous promise in scholarship, teaching and service to the field of park and recreation education.

He also was selected as the Outstanding Graduate Student from the National Recreation and Park Association’s student branch.

While at UGA, Dunlap’s teaching performance ranked in the top 10 percent of all teaching assistants serving at the university. He received the 2008 University Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award and served as the president of the UGA Graduate Recreation Organization from 2005-06.

Dunlap will join the faculty of Texas A&M University as an assistant professor in community development this fall.
