UGA College of Environment and Design’s presents “Rediscovering the Sacred Landscape” exhibit

Athens, Ga. – Master’s of landscape architecture student Abby Bullock explores sanctity within the landscape through a photographic study of the Plains Indian and Cherokee Indian cultures. The exhibit, “Rediscovering the Sacred Landscape,” will be on display at the Circle Gallery at G14 Caldwell Hall from Oct. 1-24. A reception will be held at the Circle Gallery on Wednesday, Oct. 1 from 6 – 8 p.m. This exhibit is free and open to the public.

Bullock’s study analyzes Native American land ethics and bonds with the natural world. The sacred bond and respect for the natural world maintained by indigenous cultures provides a model for modern landscape interpretation and application. The end goal of the study is to propose ways that landscape architects can incorporate a closer human association with the natural environment into their work.

The exhibit will feature Bullock’s photography and mixed media exploring the sacred landscape and land ethics, as well as include narrative descriptions documenting her research process and findings. Sketchbooks from the 2008 Maymester Trail of Tears class with landscape architecture professor Vick also will be on display.
