UGA College of Public Health and Biomedical and Health Sciences Institute to hold symposium

Athens, Ga. — The University of Georgia College of Public Health and the Biomedical and Health Sciences Institute will host the first annual Global Health Symposium on April 21-22 at the Paul D. Coverdell Center for Biomedical and Health Sciences at the University of Georgia.

“The symposium will help build momentum behind new programs in global health including a Global Health Certificate program, Maymesters in Global Health and expanded internship opportunities for graduate students to learn and gain experience abroad in global public health,” said Dr. Robert Galen, associate dean of the College of Public Health and chair of the Division of Public Health in the BHSI.

Participants will be able to hear lectures and join in discussions focused on how culture and society, infectious disease, nutrition and the environment impact public health issues around the world.

“The College of Public Health has the unique interdisciplinary expertise to educate future leaders in education, research and service in global public health issues,” said Galen. “Furthermore, colleges of public health have a tradition of building relationships with communities, local and state health departments and federal agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”
