Athens, Ga. – Several University of Georgia departments will collaborate to host a screening of the 2004 film “Crash” followed by a facilitated discussion of the film’s messages. “Diversity: A ‘Crash’ Course” will be held March 29 at 7 p.m. in the Tate Student Center Grand Hall.
Winner of three Academy Awards including Best Picture, “Crash” chronicles the ways in which the lives of a diverse cast of characters collide in interweaving stories of race, loss and redemption. The film offers a portrayal of racial and social tensions and their unintended consequences.
Viewers will have an opportunity to share their thoughts and reactions to the film via Twitter. The comments will be shown on a display adjacent to the movie screen.
Following the film, viewers will be divided into smaller discussion groups that will be facilitated by students, faculty and staff members.
UGA’s Residence Hall Association, Student Government Association, Office of the Dean of Students, Office of Institutional Diversity, Office of the President and University Housing will sponsor the program.
The event is the first in a series of programs designed to help students and the university community explore the institution’s commitment to understanding and embracing diversity on campus.
Admission is free, and tickets are not required.
