UGA Police Department warns of suspicious telephone calls

Athens, Ga. – On Sept. 20 the University of Georgia Police Department received several reports in reference to suspicious calls allegedly being made by or on behalf of the UGA Police Department.The complainants reported that the caller claimed to be conducting a telephone survey on behalf of the UGA Police Department.These calls are neither on behalf of nor in any way authorized by the UGA Police Department.

If you receive phone calls allegedly from or on behalf of the UGA Police Department and you are not certain of the legitimacy of the call, contact the department at 706/542-2200 to verify the caller’s name and association with the department.If you have received calls similar to the ones described above, contact the UGA Police Department.

The University of Georgia Police Department reminds everyone that unless you are absolutely certain of the caller’s identify, you should never give out personal information over the phone.This would include identifying information, financial or bank account information, as well as details about your schedule and who is or is not present in your home at any given time.
