UGA professor named fellow of American Society of Landscape Architects

Athens, Ga. – William A. Mann, professor emeritus at UGA’s College of Environment & Design, will be inducted into the Council of Fellows for the American Society of Landscape Architects at the organization’s annual meeting in September.

The ASLA Council of Fellows is comprised of the most highly regarded practitioners in the field of landscape architecture. Fellows must be recognized by their peers for “extraordinary work, leadership, knowledge, and service to the profession over a sustained period of time to be selected,” according to the ASLA Web site.

Mann has instructed more than 3,000 students over a 35-year career as a professor of landscape architecture. He has published two books on landscape architecture, which ASLA describes as “standard references.” He has received awards from CED as a distinguished faculty member, from Harvard Graduate School of Design as a distinguished alumnus, and from the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture for his research and teaching.

Mann is one of only 33 landscape architects nationwide to be named a fellow this year. The select list also includes CED alumnus Robert F. Bullard, ’87 BLA, founder of Bullard Land Planning in Loganville. The college now has a total of twelve faculty members who have been honored with this distinction, as well as a total of 40 CED alumni.
