The UGA Sustainable Food Systems Initiative will host a free screening of the 2016 documentary Food Evolution and a panel discussion on public attitudes about genetically engineered foods Sept. 26 from 4:30-7 p.m. in Reception Hall of the Tate Center. Although listed as a First-Year Odyssey Seminar, the screening and discussion are open free to the public.
The film discusses the ways science has been used and misused in modern debates about genetically engineered crops. Pablo Lapegna, an associate professor of sociology who studies the impact of GMO crops on Latin American farms, and Wayne Parrott, a professor of crop and soil sciences and global GMO advocate, will lead the panel discussion following the film screening.
