UGA to dedicate new fraternity complex

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia will officially open Greek Park, a new complex of fraternity houses, on Friday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m.

Open to the public, the dedication ceremony will take place at the complex, which is located on the newly-designated Greek Park Circle off River Road. The houses will be open to view and tour.

UGA President Michael F. Adams will preside at the ceremony. Rodney Bennett, vice president for student affairs, and Trevor Brightwell, president of the Interfraternity Council, will speak. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception will follow their remarks.

Construction began on the Greek Park in October 2008.

Phi Delta Theta, Pi Kappa Alpha, Tau Epsilon Phi and Sigma Nu fraternities took occupancy of their respective houses in the complex on Aug. 1.

The former houses of Phi Delta Theta, Pi Kappa Alpha and Tau Epsilon Phi, located on South Lumpkin Street, are slated for demolition later this semester.

Plans call for the South Lumpkin Street site, part ofthe university’s Northwest Precinct, to eventually become new locations for UGA’s College of Family and Consumer Sciences, Terry College of Business and other academic buildings.
