UGA to provide social media workshop in Gwinnett

Athens, Ga. -Organizations can’t afford to ignore or discount social media conversations anymore. With more than 39 million users on Facebook and a 343 percent growth of Twitter this year, social media has upended traditional public relations tactics.

The University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication will help organizations develop social media strategies during a professional development workshop, “Strategies and Opportunities in Social Media” on Saturday, Oct. 24, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the UGA Gwinnett Campus, 2530 Sever Road, Lawrenceville.

The full-day workshop will provide strategic insight into why organizations should use social media and how to do it effectively. Participants will learn what types of social media to use and how to measure it. Legal and ethical implications of using social media will also be covered.

Grady College public relations professors and social media experts, Karen Russell and Kaye Sweetser, will lead the participant-tailored workshop and provide tools and strategies to organize and operate a full-scale social media program within organizations.

“The workshop is designed for individuals responsible for developing marketing and public relations strategies in their organization,” said Jeff Springston, Grady College associate dean for research and graduate studies. “We’re excited to bring this professional development opportunity to the Atlanta market.”

The workshop fee is $695 before October 1 and $750 after October 1 with a group discount for three or more participants from the same organization. Space is limited and the registration deadline is Monday, Oct. 12. For more information and to register, see www.grady.uga.edu/social
