UGA’s Krugman named president of American Academy of Advertising

Athens, Ga. – Dean Krugman, professor of advertising at the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, has been named president-elect of the American Academy of Advertising (AAA).

The position of president is a three-year commitment, first as president-elect, then president and finally as immediate past president. As president-elect, Krugman will be responsible for acting for the president in his or her absence or disability and will perform any duties assigned by the president. He will also serve as coordinator of special topics for the annual conference. Krugman will begin his duties as AAA president-elect at the 2007 annual conference set for April 12-15 in Burlington, Vermont.

Along with being an active AAA member, Krugman teaches advertising, integrated communications management and communication theory at the Grady College. He has received several awards for his teaching and was named outstanding teacher at UGA four times. Krugman is also an active consultant in the areas of research and management and has worked with companies such as Caterpillar, Inc., Texas Instruments, Philips-Magnavox, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Justice.

The American Academy of Advertising (AAA) is an organization of advertising scholars and professionals with an interest in advertising and advertising education. The academy promotes research in the advertising field and allows its academic and professional members to discuss, develop and analyze information. The academy has two publications, the Journal of Advertising and its annual conference proceedings, through which it spreads research findings and scholarly contributions to advertising education and the profession.

Established in 1915, the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication offers seven undergraduate majors including advertising, broadcast news, magazines, newspapers, public relations, publication management and telecommunication arts. The college offers two graduate degrees, and is home to the Knight Chair in Health and Medical Journalism and the Peabody Awards, internationally recognized as one of the most prestigious prizes for excellence in electronic media.
