Undocumented residents can qualify for in-state tuition in Maryland

Maryland legislators approved a law this month that would make their state the 11th in the nation to grant in-state college tuition breaks to illegal immigrants, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

Under provisions in the law, undocumented residents who have attended high school in Maryland for at least three years and whose families pay state taxes will qualify for in-state tuition rates at community colleges. Once the students complete 60 credit hours, they will be able to transfer to a four-year college and continue to pay the lower tuition rates.
