University Council creates committee to look into furlough alternatives

At its last meeting of the academic year on April 27, the University Council voted to create a committee to investigate possible alternatives to furloughing employees who are paid by external sponsored funding.

David Live, an associate research scientist in the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center and council member, brought a motion to the floor to exclude all university members paid by sponsored funds from future furloughs. The council debated enacting the proposal, but decided to send it to a committee for further study.

The council also approved the 2011-2012 academic calendar, changes to the hardship withdrawal policy, changes to the University Council’s bylaws and several proposals from the Curriculum Committee. For more information on council action, visit https://uc.reg.uga.edu/.
