Despite a state law passed in August that would permit concealed weapons on campus, the Board of Trustees at the University of Utah banned the practice, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education.
State Sen. Michael Waddoups, a Salt Lake City Republican, sponsored the bill in protest to the university’s 30-year gun ban, which he called an attempt to usurp legislative authority. The board voted to disregard the law until a state or federal court can hear their case, the report said.
The ban applies only to students, professors and staffers.
