The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation gave a $1 million grant to four academic presses to establish a collaborative publishing program for indigenous studies, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.
The University of Arizona Press, the University of Minnesota Press, the University of North Carolina Press and Oregon State University Press will split the grant, one of the largest the foundation has ever awarded in its Mellon series to fund underserved areas of the humanities. Collaborations are already backed by grants including the American Literatures Initiative, a Slavic-studies series and a series on ethnomusicology.
