University sues over early graduation

A German university is suing a student for lost income because he finished requirements for his bachelor’s and master’s degree in only 20 months.

A judge has ruled that 22-year-old Marcel Pohl owes $3,772 to the School of Economics and Management in Essen, Germany, after earning his degrees in only three semesters instead of the usual 11, according to the news agency United Press International. Pohl said school administrators agreed in advance that he and two friends could take their 60 required exams despite dividing up the lecture hours between them and sharing notes afterward. But the judge said that because Pohl used the same facilities as other students, he has to pay the same as other students.
