The U.S. Education Department “preliminarily concluded” that it had no objections to Purdue University’s acquisition of Kaplan University. While Purdue still needs final, official approval, the university is confident the purchase will happen.
With the purchase, Purdue will create a new public institution, Purdue NewU, which will use Kaplan’s established online infrastructure to reach students who either did not complete college or have no post-secondary education whatsoever.
