Video-installation artist Mika Rottenberg will visit campus to lecture and work with students in photography, sculpture and art x: expanded forms.
Rottenberg will spend three days at UGA as part of the Visiting Artist and Scholar Lecture Series. She will present a public lecture Nov. 29 at 5:30 p.m. in Room S151 of the Lamar Dodd School of Art. Before her lecture there will be a screening of her 2010 film Squeeze at 5 p.m. The lecture and screening are free and open to the public.
The Argentine-born, Israeli-raised artist has exhibited around the world. Her best-known works feature women in industrial spaces, engaged in absurdist and often-redundant activities designed to raise questions about the nature of production, consumption and global economies.
“The appeal of Mika’s work is multi-faceted. For although her videos typically engage serious issues such as race, women, exploitation and labor, they are nevertheless comedic and, in terms of their visuals, highly inventive,” said Isabelle Loring Wallace, associate professor of art history. “Watching one of her videos is like being submerged in a world that recalls, but radically departs, from our own.”
