In the wake of campus shooting tragedies in 2007 and 2011, the governing board of Virginia Tech voted unanimously to ban firearms in campus buildings and at major events like football games, The Chronicle of Higher Education reported.
The new regulation, which takes the form of a state regulation instead of a university policy, applies to people with concealed-weapon permits; however, they will continue to be able to take their guns elsewhere on university grounds, the Chronicle reported.
