Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources to hold tree identification sessions

Athens, Ga. – Beginning on Oct. 6, the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources will hold free tree identification sessions at Oconee Forest Park. Forest Resources Manager Dan Williams will hold these sessions from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. every Wednesday, weather permitting.

“We will walk Oconee Forest Park identifying trees and other plants, provide helpful acronyms and mnemonics for remembering three characteristics and assist folks with collections,” Williams said.

The Warnell School manages Oconee Forest Park, which is located off of College Station Road next to the intramural fields. Williams said anyone interested in attending the tree identification sessions should meet at the boardwalk entrance by turning into the intramural sports complex, following the paved road to the tennis courts and turning left. This road ends at the boardwalk parking lot.

Williams will wait by the boardwalks every Wednesday until a group forms or until about 3:30 p.m. Anyone who cannot arrive before 3:30 p.m. can contact Williams at 706/433-3510 or williams@warnell.uga.edu.
