Athens, Ga. – Meteorologist Ginger Zee of “Good Morning America” will talk weather and the value of teachers and mentors at a lecture hosted by the University of Georgia American Meteorological Society student chapter on Oct. 17 at 4:30 p.m. in room 102 of the Miller Learning Center. The lecture is open to the public.

Zee is the Emmy Award-winning weather anchor of the “Good Morning America” weekend edition, which is broadcast from the ABC News studios in Manhattan, N.Y. She also reports on weather-related topics from around the country during the week. She joined the morning show in 2011 after working at WMAQ-Channel 5 in Chicago and WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, Mich.

“Teachers and mentors encouraged me to do what I have done,” Zee said. “So any time I can talk to students—even if I touch just one—it feels like I am giving back. I’ve been so fortunate to have the support of family, friends and all the people who told me I could do anything I dreamed.”

Zee started her career in broadcast meteorology as an intern with meteorologist James Spann at ABC 33/40 in Birmingham, Ala. She received her bachelor’s degree in meteorology from Valparaiso University in Indiana where she also served as an adjunct professor from 2008-2011. She holds the American Meteorological Society’s Seal of Approval and is an AMS certified broadcast meteorologist.
