President Barack Obama has pledged $100 million toward a research initiative to better understand the human brain.
The project is called the Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies initiative and has been likened to the Human Genome Project.
The goal is to “help researchers find new ways to treat, cure and even prevent brain disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy and traumatic brain injury,” according to a White House news release.
The project’s initial stages will be co-led by Cori Bargmann, a UGA alumna and neurobiologist at Rockefeller University in New York.
