William Eiland

William Underwood Eiland, director of the Georgia Museum of Art, received the James R. Short award for service to the museum profession from the Southeastern Museums Conference.

Established by SEMC in 1981, the purpose of this award is to recognize individuals who have given a lifetime (20 years or more) of distinguished service to the museum profession, with a significant portion of that service at a museum within the SEMC region.

The SEMC is a nonprofit membership organization that serves Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia and Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
