Writing Fellows deadline

Letters of interest for UGA’s Writing Fellows program are being accepted until April 16 from permanent UGA faculty.

The Office of the Vice President for Instruction established the program to support faculty in their efforts to include more writing in their courses as well as to further writing as an integral part of UGA’s educational experience.

Up to 12 faculty will be selected as Writing Fellows for the 2012-2013 academic year. The group will meet regularly to discuss the most effective ways to teach and to respond to student writing. Each Writing Fellow will receive $1,000 to subsidize projects aimed at constructing courses, projects or initiatives that will support student writing at UGA.

The Writing Fellows will meet approximately every three weeks to discuss research that substantiates the best practices for helping students develop as writers. Selected Writing Fellows agree to participate in the regular meetings and submit a project proposal for the use of the stipend.

The selection committee is seeking faculty who represent a range of disciplines and instructional modes, from regular to large enrollment classes. Each candidate should send a letter of interest for the fellowship, endorsed by the candidate’s department or unit head, addressed to Nelson Hilton, director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, Instructional Plaza.
