Athens, Ga. – The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia will participate this summer in Blue Star Museums, a program organized by the National Endowment for the Arts that offers free admission and special discounts to military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Although admission to the museum is always free, the museum shop is offering a 10 percent discount for military personnel and their families. The museum has signed on to the program in an effort to connect the arts and military communities and as a way to thank military families for their service and sacrifice.
The discount is available to anyone with a military ID-which includes Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard, as well as members of the National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and NOAA Commissioned Corps-and his or her family members. The same visitors will also receive a limited-edition button with a military theme by asking at the museum’s front desk.
The museum has also created a self-guided tour of images in the permanent collection with relevance to the military. Anyone who would like to take the tour, which is not limited to military families, may ask for a copy at the museum’s front desk during regular hours.
The nationwide list of participating museums is available at http://arts.gov/national/blue-star-museums.
