Athens, Ga. – The Georgia Museum of Art at the University of Georgia will participate this summer in Blue Star Museums, a program that offers free admission and special discounts to all active-duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Although admission is always free, the museum is offering a 10 percent discount in its shop for all active-duty military personnel and their families. The museum has signed on to the program in an effort to connect the arts and military communities and as a way to thank military families for their service and sacrifice.

The discount is available to anyone with a military or dependent ID—which includes Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard, as well as members of the National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and NOAA Commissioned Corps—and up to five family members.

In addition, the museum has created a self-guided tour of images in the permanent collection with relevance to the military, including Erle Loran’s painting “America at War,” Ralston Crawford’s “Test Able” and Lawrence Beall Smith’s “London Salute.” Those who would like to take the tour, which is not limited to military families, may ask for a flier at the museum’s front desk during regular operating hours.

The Georgia Museum of Art is both the university museum and, since 1982, the official state museum of art. The museum strives to provide art for everyone, removing barriers to accessibility and seeking to foster an open, educational and inspiring environment for students, scholars and the general public.
