UGA to host 400 high school students for math tournament Oct. 23

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia will host nearly 400 high school students from Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina for its 10th annual High School Math Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 23, beginning at 8 a.m. in the Student Learning Center.

Two individual winners will be awarded a $1,000 Charter Scholarship to attend UGA (subject to acceptance at UGA) for each of four years. The top five winners will receive cash prizes of $100, $80, $60, $40 and $20 respectively. The top 10 winners will be awarded cast puzzles by the late Japanese puzzle maker Nob Yoshigahara; high-scoring individuals and best teams also will receive small prizes.

Organizers of the event are UGA math professors Valery Alexeev and Ted Shifrin and M.I.T. math student Boris Alexeev.
