UGA Invisible Children chapter wins regional competition

Athens, Ga. – Invisible Children United at the University of Georgia was named the top-fundraising chapter from the Gulf-Coast region in the “Schools for Schools” competition by raising $5,454 to help raise awareness and end the civil war in Northern Uganda.

ICU at UGA is a chapter of the national non-profit organization Invisible Children, Inc., and was established at the University of Georgia in 2007.

Because of the chapter’s placement in the competition, Meredith Jones, co-president of the chapter, will travel to Northern Uganda in June to oversee the development of the Awere Secondary School – UGA’s partner school.

The local UGA club raises awareness of the turmoil in Northern Uganda and the plight of its children through benefit concerts, movie screenings, and letter-writing campaigns. The club meets on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the Miller Learning Center, room 207. The club

will host a screening of the film: Invisible Children: The Rough Cut, on Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Miller Learning Center, room 101.
