Athens, Ga. — Gov. Sonny Perdue will present a select group of state and local officials with 2005 Georgia Excellence in Public Service Awards at a special ceremony to be held in Atlanta on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
The program – a partnership between the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government and Georgia Trend magazine – recognizes public officials from Georgia in five categories (see below). The winners were selected from a pool of nominees submitted by citizens and officials from communities across the state.
The governor will deliver a brief keynote address before presenting the awards. “Gov. Perdue has commented often on how critical effective leadership principles in government will be to our state’s future,” noted James Ledbetter, Vinson Institute director. “We are honored that he will be joining us to spotlight these outstanding public service professionals and to help foster a continued commitment to public service in the workforce.”
