Athens, Ga. – Incoming students at the University of Georgia should be well-prepared when they begin classes next fall thanks to 12 orientation leaders who will introduce them to campus life during the summer 2009 orientation sessions.
The orientation leaders, current undergraduates chosen by UGA’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions, serve as peer mentors to help guide and support incoming first-year and transfer students. During the orientation programs, the leaders share their own UGA experiences through small group meetings, panel discussions, skits and other presentations. The leaders provide information about UGA’s diverse academic and extracurricular opportunities and serve as an important resource for parents who may also attend.
“Since there was such a strong pool of applicants for the orientation leader position this year, I feel confident that we picked a great bunch of students,” said Milly Legra, associate director of undergraduate admissions and director of orientation. “We are excited to be working with this new team.”
The group-made up of one freshman, two sophomores, seven juniors and two seniors-was selected for their strong communication skills, leadership abilities, and enthusiastic campus spirit so that they can deliver a memorable welcome to the new students at UGA.
