Members of UGA’s Class of 2020 gathered in Sanford Stadium on Aug. 10 for the Freshman Welcome, the night before fall classes began. As part of the annual tradition hosted by the Student Alumni Association and the Student Government Association, incoming students learned traditions for cheering at UGA football games and got encouraging advice from campus leaders. UGA President Jere W. Morehead congratulated the students on being the most academically qualified class in the university’s history.

“The next four years is up to you,” he said. “I’m here to encourage you to enjoy every moment at this great university.”

New UGA head football coach Kirby Smart encouraged the students to savor what will become “the greatest years” of their lives. The event ended between the hedges with a class photo in the form of the “Power G.”
