Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication is conducting a simulated news event as part of its multimedia day training in a management seminar for college newspaper editors. The event is scheduled for July 31 from 3 until 4 p.m. and will involve a simulated incident in the journalism building.
The event is being conducted in cooperation with the Office of Emergency Preparedness, UGA Police, Campus Transit and the Public Affairs Division.
As part of the simulation, student journalists will be exposed to a crowd filled with rumors, employees who witnessed the incident, and UGA law enforcement and public relations personnel who will conduct a news conference to discuss the event. The students will be required to write and file stories after the news conference, which will be critiqued by Grady College and conference faculty.
The simulation is part of the 18th annual Management Seminar for College News Editors, which is conducted each summer by the Grady College.
