In reference to the continuing investigation into the death of David Peacock Braun, an autopsy was performed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner’s Office earlier this date. University of Georgia Police Department investigators were present for and witnessed the exam. At this point, nothing conclusive has been offered as a cause of death. Toxicology testing will be performed to help in this determination. Toxicology results typically take 90 to 120 days, but can take longer in some cases. University of Georgia Police Department investigators will continue to communicate with the Athens-Clarke County Coroner’s Office as well as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner’s Office as the investigation progresses.

We would like to reiterate that up to this point no indications of foul play were found at the scene or during the autopsy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner’s Office. There is also no information at this point to conclude that the cause of death was self-inflicted. We also want to remind everyone that nothing has been found up to this point in the investigation that indicates that any other members of the University community are at risk or should be concerned for their safety as a result of this incident.
