Legendary bluegrass group The Del McCoury Band will appear on May 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall as part of the UGA Presents 30th anniversary season.
The concert, supported by David Coker and Sharon Price, brings one of the most influential groups in American roots music to Athens.
Led by bluegrass icon Del McCoury (guitar, lead vocals), the band also features his sons Ronnie McCoury (mandolin, vocals) and Rob McCoury (banjo, vocals), Alan Bartram (bass, vocals), and Christian Ward (fiddle, vocals). Known for their dynamic stage presence and deep musical catalog, the group will offer a unique and spontaneous experience.
The Del McCoury Band stands as a cornerstone of the bluegrass tradition, blending technical mastery with a willingness to explore new collaborations and musical influences. The group has performed on major stages worldwide, from the Grand Ole Opry to major festivals, and has attracted fans across generations and genres.
McCoury’s career spans more than six decades, making him a living link to the origins and evolution of bluegrass music. From his early days performing with Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys to his current role as bandleader, McCoury has helped shape the genre while continually reaching new audiences. His work has earned widespread acclaim, including multiple Grammy Awards and numerous honors from the International Bluegrass Music Association, where he has been named Entertainer of the Year 10 times.
