Clint Waltz, turfgrass specialist with University of Georgia Cooperative Extension, spoke with Southern Living about the best time for people to mow their lawns.
“It’s better to mow when the canopy, or grass leaves, are dry,” Waltz said. “That means after the dew has dried, which is usually around mid-morning, even in the humid Southeast.”
It’s also OK to mow in the early evening around 5:30 or 6 p.m.
But for people who can’t mow at those times of day, their lawns will be fine, according to Waltz.
“From a disease reduction standpoint, it doesn’t matter much,” he said. “The time of day you mow isn’t a disease management control strategy.”
