Members of the UGA faculty are reviving the university’s chapter of the American Association of University Professors.
AAUP is a national organization that promotes academic freedom and has been influential in developing professional ethics and standards for higher education. It is active on a large number of issues, such as work-family balance, salary equity, and government relations.
In the state of Georgia there are 29 local chapters of the AAUP, including 13 at campuses of the University System of Georgia. The impetus for reviving the AAUP at UGA is concern over the continuing decline in state funding to the university. Faculty may join the AAUP on its Web site (www.aaup.org) and attend the first meeting of the chapter, which will be held Jan. 13 at 12:30 p.m. in Room 101 Le Conte Hall. Dues are $169 per year.
