UGA students approved a proposal on March 23 to fund the expansion of the Tate Student Center by adding a $25-per-semeser fee to tuition bills.
An estimated 3,411 students voted on the fate of the proposal, which includes a 500-space parking deck, a new building and the renovation of the existing student center. Of those students voting, 55 percent voted yes on the proposal. The proposal to expand the Tate Center now goes to the regents for consideration on its April meeting agenda.
Once the parking deck is complete, work would begin on the 100,000-square-foot student center expansion, which would be directly on top of the parking deck. Renovation of the existing student center would then follow. Plans call for the entire project to be completed in 2008.
