The Daniel B. Warnell School of Forest Resources has received final approval from the University System of Georgia Board of Regents to formally change its name to the Daniel B. Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources.
Senior administrators and alumni at the school proposed the name change last year in an effort to better reflect the disciplines the school represents, which include wildlife, fisheries and aquaculture, forestry, water and soil resources, and the newly approved natural resources recreation and tourism degree program.
The official letter of approval from Daniel Papp, senior vice chancellor, to Provost Arnett Mace acknowledges, “We understand that renaming the aforementioned academic unit is one step undertaken by UGA to increase awareness regarding the breadth and depth of academic programming and scholarship relative to forestry and natural resources.”
“We are very pleased to receive final approval for this important change and recognition of our program,” says Richard Porterfield, dean of forestry and natural resources. “The new name not only better reflects the degree programs offered, but it will also give prospective students a clearer understanding of where to receive natural resource science and management training at the university.”
