The Georgia Museum of Art is sponsoring a series of lectures and receptions in honor of Jitish Kallat and Reena Kallat, two visiting artists from India. The two have selected works featured in the exhibition Modern Indian Works on Paper, which is on view at the Georgia Museum of Art through Oct. 8.
On Sept. 26 they will give a free lecture at 5:30 p.m. in the museum’s M. Smith Griffith Auditorium, where they will discuss their works as well as the overall exhibition’s significance. Following the lecture, the museum will host a reception in the lobby and the galleries will remain open to the public until 7:30 p.m.
On Sept. 28 at 5 p.m., the two will be part of a panel discussion in 314 Sanford Hall focusing on the business side of art, from collecting to creating. The panel also will feature Jim Barsness, a professor of art at the Lamar Dodd School of Art, Umesh Gaur, the collector responsible for Modern Indian Works on Paper, Romita Ray, former curator of prints and drawings at the Georgia Museum of Art and current assistant professor of art history at Syracuse University, Srinivas K. Reddy, the director of the Coca-Cola Center for Marketing Studies at the Terry College of Business, and Sandi Turner and Chris Wyrick, owners of Mercury Art Works in Athens.
Following the discussion, there will be a reception in honor of the visiting artists at Mercury Art Works from 7-9 p.m.
