The annual Campus Services Fair showcased opportunities and services for UGA employees from in-house departments. From printer paper to perfume, the university offers several options to ease work both on and off campus. Here are some highlights from the fair you may not know about:
Bulldog Bucks can fetch a good deal
Servicing 110 locations outside of campus (including the recently-signed Gyro Wrap downtown), Bulldog Bucks is an easy alternative to credit or debit cards. A soon-to-be-launched Web site will allow users to transfer money to their cards online and access account transactions for 90 days.
It also saves money. In January and June of each year, the group distributes coupon books. The next coupon book, containing $350 in savings, will be available June 8.
“The book’s got 114 pages this time. It’s just stuffed,” said manager Donald W. South. “Every time we do (the coupon book), it gets bigger.”
The Bookstore offers more than textbooks
The UGA Bookstore is the only place in town selling Dell and Apple computer products at academic rates. It also boasts a large general reading section (with staff and faculty discounts) and allows customers to pre-order the next Harry Potter book at a 40 percent discount before July 20.
“We’ve got a lot people don’t know about,” said Victoria Vandecar, manager of the computer section. “Most people don’t even know we have a Clinique counter.”
Central Office Supply offers close-to-home savings
“We carry paper at a big discount over what you buy at regular stores, and we sell recycled toner cartridges for printers,” said Susan Thornton, department manager. “We also offer next-day delivery.”
University Printing can get your jobs done faster
Thanks to new equipment, UGA Printing has cut the time it takes to finish and deliver jobs. The full-service department prints the gambit of material, from black-and-white fliers to full-color books.
“We’re far more efficient now. It’s the fastest we’ve ever been,” said Max Harrell, manager. “I encourage every department to consider what we do, if they have the need. We’ll do an estimate on any job, usually within 24 hours.”

“We can connect up to 23 people across the country,” said Christine Long, who works in the department. “And there’s no charge.”
Sunday brunch is family-friendly at Oglethorpe House
White tablecloths, fresh-cut flowers and live piano music fill O. House on Sundays during the spring and fall semesters. For about $7 a piece, anyone can pay for the Southern-style buffet (or any other meal at the dining hall).
“It’s a great place to bring your family,” said Mike Floyd, director of Food Services. “And the students get a big kick out of being around kids. They’re always so excited. A lot of these students are away from home for the first time and they don’t regularly see families and children, so they enjoy it and it adds to a great sense of university community.”
