A computer security seminar will be held April 4 from 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel. Part of the Academic-Professional Security Series, the seminar is free, but pre-registration is required by April 1.
Presenters include Terry Fisher, supervisory special agent with the FBI; Stan Gatewood, UGA’s chief information security officer; and James Metcalf, information technology manager in the Terry College of Business.
Topics will include how to detect intrusion to your computer; means of protecting laptops and tips for travelling with a laptop; steps that should be taken to protect sensitive data; resources available to assist members of the UGA community; how to determine if unsolicited e-mail is genuine or spam; problems and concerns with implementing effective security; and the creation of a security culture for computer security.
The series is hosted by the Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness, the Center for International Trade and Security and Enterprise Information Technology Services.
