Public radio station WUGA-FM 91.7/97.9 FM will sponsor a community health fair Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Mahler Auditorium of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel.
The fair will include free blood pressure checks, cholesterol screenings, body mass index tests and vision screenings.
There will also be an American Red Cross blood drive. Anyone wishing to donate blood is reminded to eat and drink before donating.
Representatives will be on hand from the Athens Regional Mind Body Institute, Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support, the diabetes education department, UGA’s foods and nutrition department and the College of Pharmacy. Representatives from the Northeast Georgia Health District will have information on the flu.
Mammograms will be offered for a fee, depending on health insurance coverage, at the mobile mammography bus. Appointments should be made in advance.
The community health fair will be the radio station’s annual community event. In the past the community events have been musical events and concerts. The health fair is open to everyone.
