The College of Public Health will host a community forum about the current flu pandemic, the upcoming seasonal flu season, vaccination and tips to stay healthy. The forum will be held on Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in Room 175 of the Paul D. Coverdell Center for Biomedical Health Sciences.
Free and open to the public, the forum will be led by the public health college’s Dr. Christopher C. Whalen, a professor of epidemiology, and Dr. Steven R. Valeika, an infectious disease epidemiologist and veterinarian. Dr. Claude Burnett, a preventative medicine physician, who also is the Northeast Georgia district health director and an adjunct faculty member in the public health college, also will take in the panel discussion. After a brief overview of the H1N1 and seasonal influenza viruses, the panel will field questions from the audience. The panel discussion will be moderated by John Newton, an emergency operations coordinator in the Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness.
