Nine faculty learning communities are planned for next year, and April 16 is the application deadline to join them.
Facilitated by faculty and staff, next year’s communities include: “Storytelling,” “An FLC for International Faculty,” “Everything You Wanted To Know About Teaching But Were Afraid to Ask,” “Making the Academic More than academic: Exploring Opportunities to Connect Classroom Learning with Civic Engagement,” “SoTL: The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning,” “The Stories We Could Tell: Negotiating Socioeconomic Class Issues in the Academy,” “The Teaching, Doing and Mentoring of Qualitative Research FLC,” “Green Leaves: Eco-critical Conversations” and “Globalizing the Curriculum: Trends, Driving Forces, Cross-Cultural Exchanges.”
Faculty learning communities bring together small groups of faculty from different disciplines about every three weeks to consider a topic of mutual interest and learn from each other. More than 70 faculty are participating in eight learning communities organized and supported this year by the Center for Teaching and Learning.
A reception the first week of fall semester with the vice president for instruction will feature reports from the current learning communities and the inaugural meetings of the 2010-2011 groups.
