In conjunction with the Martin Luther King Jr. national holiday and the 50th anniversary of UGA’s desegregation, the eighth annual Freedom Breakfast will be held Jan. 14 at
7:30 a.m. in the Grand Hall of the Tate Student Center. During the breakfast, the President’s Fulfilling the Dream Awards will be presented.
The event is sponsored by UGA, the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government and the Clarke County School District.
This year’s theme is “The Power of the Dream: Celebrating Courage.” The keynote speaker will be Mary Frances Early, who in 1962 became the first African-American to earn a degree from UGA. Tickets are $18 for individuals or $144 for a table of eight. All tickets must be purchased at the Office of Institutional Diversity in the Holmes-Hunter Academic Building. At the breakfast, UGA President Michael F. Adams will present the President’s Fulfilling the Dream Awards to individuals who have made significant efforts to build bridges of understanding. Winners will be individuals from the university, Athens-Clarke County and surrounding areas who strive to make a reality of King’s dream of equality and justice.
